Shelter, Supply, Or Serve?
Three options identified in partnership with the Jacksonville Emergency Preparedness Division for ways the local church can most effectively engage their neighborhoods in times of disaster.
Determine which gap your church is best equipped to fill:
Shelter
Your building
Provide temporary shelter for displaced families for 7–10 days.
- Sleeping space, restrooms, and a place to cook or receive meals
- City Emergency Response Team will visit your building to approve capability
- Available only to churches outside an evacuation zone
$5,000
Funds provided for cots, bedding, generator, fuel and supplies.
Supply
Your parking lot
Your property becomes a designated drive thru distribution point to supply your neighborhood with water, food, and toiletries.
- Box-truck accessible drop and staging area
- Pallets arrive from the county and partner agencies
- Your team hands out supplies to walk-ups and drive-ups

Funds provided for supplies, tents, tables, signage and fuel.
Serve
Your people
Mobilize volunteers to staff shifts at nearby Red Cross shelters when they open.
- A named team of trained volunteers on call
- Various jobs and roles available for all ages and abilities
- Open to any church, in any zone, with or without a building
$5,000
Funds provided for any church logging 200 volunteer hours at Red Cross shelters.

Once approved, your grant is released up front, and you begin preparation.

Defines the need, trains the volunteers, and activates the network when a storm makes landfall.

Convenes the coalition across denominations and holds the funds.
